Extra Credit Option A:
Write a blog post on the UCM student play, “Fire, Water, Poison, Hope: California in 2023,” to be performed Dec. 9th 2:00pm at ACS 120 at UCM and Dec. 10th 7pm at Merced Playhouse (see poster below). The blog post should reflect on the play’s themes and ideas in connection to what students have learned in English 067. It will replace the lowest graded or missing blog post.
Alternatively, students unable to attend the performances can revise ONE of their blog posts (including those with a “0”) for a higher grade.
Extra Credit Option B:
Students have the option to write comments on 12 blog posts of their choice on any given week (excluding their own) to be counted for one or two of these two areas:
- To make up for two missed or low scoring reading quizzes (receive full 3 points for each quiz)
- Excuse two absences from before 11/27.
Students could opt for either grade category or complete 24 blog comments for both categories. Students would choose their preferred weeks and posts. Blog comments should be submitted in the comment box to each of the blog posts by no later than Friday 12/15 by 6pm. The comments must be 3-4 sentences and answer the following question:
What is the most original idea presented in this post and how could the student’s interpretation be improved?
Comments that provide only opinions—positive or negative—will not earn extra-credit points. Only substantial comments that address the above question for each student blog post–in a constructive and courteous manner–will be accepted.
Students must contact professor Garcia via email upon completing either or both extra credit options in order for him to make the grade and/or attendance record change. The deadline for both options is Friday 12/15 6pm.
